I am  currently teaching a seminar on American Poetry and the Visual Arts. Plato’s Cratylus, Homer’s “Achilles Shield”, Horace’s Ars Poetic, and Lessing’s Laocoön provide the main theoretical background for this approach.  Among the American poets that we read, there’s a special focus on Whitman (photography), Melville (architecture), Crane, Berryman,  O’Hara, Ashbery and Jarrell (movies), Stevens, Williams, Auden, O’Hara and Ashbery (pintura), and Plath (painting and sculpture). We also pay a particular attention on contemporary poets essays on the visual arts.

This is the cover of my book Ekphrasis – O Poeta no Atelier do Artista (Ekphrasis – The Poet in the Artist’s Office) (edicoescosmos@iol.pt)
